Research on trade union activism of youth employed in public sector
We are proudly presenting “Analysis of the questionnaires on trade union activism of youth employed in public sector” within the project “Trade unions and their youth sections – new impetus for youth participation”, supported by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.
Results were collected through questionnaires answered by young trade union activists 18-35 years of age from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Greece and Albania. Thanks to their answers, a clear picture was obtained on engagement of youth in the trade union and through its structure, as well on the treatment towards them. Furthermore, opinions of young workers in countries outside the European Union and member states were compared, as well as their needs for greater engagement within the trade union.
Research shows that young people are willing to get involved more if image of the trade union changes, but also if there are more activities tailored to them and their priorities. Also, the youth is eager for non-formal education and underlines its need for more trainings through trade unions on various topics important for their further personal and professional development.
Research consists of national reports, regional cross-section and recommendations for further acting of the trade union in order to engage young people to join and be actively involved in its work and activities. Research can be found here.
