Initial training on the occasion of the beginning of “Life champions against peer violence” project
Development Center for Youth from Belgrade, with the support of the Cabinet of the Minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities in the field of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women is pleased to announce the initial training on the occasion of the beginning of project “Life champions against peer violence” in Subotica.
The concept of Life Champions, which has been successfully developed for five years with the support of the UEFA Foundation for Children and the European Union, using sport as an important instrument for educating children and young people and conveying important social messages, this time focuses on the topic of peer violence, empowering sports coaches to dealing with the same, primarily through informing about the term and forms of peer violence, recognizing it, and adequately reacting to it while providing support to those who are in need.
Through the project “Life champions against peer violence”, the concept of Life Champions, in the foreground of which is the coach as a pedagogue and educator, wants to use the true influence that sports coaches have on the children and young people they train, drawing attention to this increasingly present negative social phenomenon against which we must fight in a synergistic and coordinated manner.
The project aims to empower sports coaches as pedagogues and educators, in order to recognize and adequately respond to the occurrences of peer violence among children and young people. Through interactive training, participants will learn about the term and forms of peer violence, methods of recognizing it and providing support to victims, as well as the concept of safeguarding in sports.
Support for the project at the initial training will also be provided by representatives of the cabinet of Tatjana Macura, minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities in the field of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women.
The training will be held in two segments:
1. Theoretical part – December 18 from 2 p.m., with expert lectures and interactive discussions.
2. Practical sessions – December 19 in the morning hours on the sports field.
Through the practical part of the training, participants will receive suggestions for implementing actions in local communities, in order to spread the message about the importance of preventing peer violence as widely as possible.
