Trainers and children of Karate club Viktoris Sd Smederevo and Karate club Raška continued to combine sport and education with a set of activities, this time focusing on the topic of peer violence. Nowadays, when young people are increasingly exposed to various forms of violence, we believe it is important to discuss this topic and provide young people with tools to deal with such situations.

At the workshops, interactive exercises and discussion it had been analysed what constituted peer violence, how to recognize it and, most importantly, how to react and protect yourself and others. The older members, who gained self-confidence, discipline and a sense of community through sports, shared their experiences and advice to the younger ones, emphasizing how important it was to develop mental and physical strength, as well as empathy and respect for others.

We are proud that the participants of the initial training for trainers as part of the “Life champions against peer violence” project, led by the associates of Development Center for Youth, Jovana Ilić and Bogdan Trikoš, continued with the transfer of knowledge, in this particular case, striving for their young participants to acquire, in addition to martial arts skills, life values that would make them better people.

“We believe that karate is not just a sport, but a way of life that teaches us how to deal with challenges and to support each other, including the fight against peer violence. Thanks to everyone who participated in our activities – we will continue to build a safer and healthier environment for all of us!”, Jovana Ilić and Bogdan Trikoš said unanimously.

The “Life champions against peer violence” project is supported by the Cabinet of the Minister without portfolio in charge of coordination of the activities in the field of gender equality, fighting violence against women and the economic and political empowerment of women.
